THEOLOGY ON TAP: Our Lenten Journey - Engaging the World from an Ecological Perspective
Special guest: Sr. Noreen Allossery-Walsh, osu, Doctoral Studies, Ecological Responsibility.
We'll reflect on the importance of understanding the "world" within a contemporary cosmological framework in order to live our Christian vocation - to alleviate suffering in a more integrated way.
Noreen has worked as an educator in the area of spirituality and social justice for 25 years. Among her many ministry experiences, her work in Chiclayo, Peru and in the Office for Social Justice have shaped her global vision and sense of mission. Her recent doctoral studies in Ecological Responsibility emphasizes that justice calls the global community to interact with creation holistically as a "communion of subjects rather than as a collection of objects to be exploited". Noreen believes her vocation at this time in Earth’s history is to facilitate dialogue between science and faith through cosmology - The New Story of the Universe.

THEOLOGY ON TAP: Faith in Action - Is God still relevant in issues of poverty alleviation?
Special guest: Neil Hetherington, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Toronto.
Is God still relevant in issues of poverty alleviation?
Canadians, in general, feel it is the state that is responsible for the welfare of its citizens. At the same time Christian NGOs are consistently under pressure to reduce the visibility of their faith background in order to appeal to a wide audience, and therefore do more good. Has God been squeezed out of the equation?
In September 2000, Neil Hetherington made a radical career change by joining Habitat for Humanity Toronto; at the time as the youngest CEO of a Habitat affiliate in the world. Neil holds degrees or certificates from University of Western Ontario - Huron College, Seneca College, Harvard Business School and the University of Virginia - Darden Business School. Full bio.

THEOLOGY ON TAP: Spiritual Resistance in a Concentration Camp
Special guest: Vera Schiff, a Theresienstadt survivor.
Vera Schiff is a survivor of the Holocaust who, along with her family, was deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia. Vera was just 16 years old at the time, and spent three years struggling to survive the Nazi concentration camp system. She will discuss her personal experiences in the Holocaust, the fate of her family members, and what it meant to "Spiritually Resist" the dehumanizing conditions of a Nazi concentration camp.
Vera Schiff was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. In 1942, her family was deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp (Terezin). Her mother, father, sister and grandmother all perished there. She survived three years in Theresienstadt and was liberated by the Soviet Army in May, 1945. After living in Prague and Israel, Vera and her husband immigrated to Canada in 1961.
Vera has also authored three books:
- Theresienstadt: The Town the Nazis Gave to the Jews. This is her autobiography but also historical overview of Theresienstadt.
- Hitler's Inferno. Which is a collection of accounts of 8 individuals who were in the same camp as Vera, but each had a different fate.
- Letters to Veruska. This is an English translation of the diary Vera's mother kept while in the camp. Vera discovered it after her Mom died, and a couple of years ago she translated it from Czech to English and provided explanatory notes and family photos.

THEOLOGY ON TAP: Small is Beautiful in an "Up Size It" World
Special guest: Luke Stocking, Development & Peace Animator for Central Ontario.
Luke's family comes from a generation of farmers now being called “double green” – green because they are new to farming and green because they seek to create a sustainable small farm community with links that feed people who live near them. The Catholic Church, with its theology of community, work and the land, is in a position to be an example for the rest of the world as we strive for a more sustainable future here on the home we call planet earth. Small farms are the future, that is if the future we want is a healthy one – healthy bodies, healthy planet, healthy souls. Come hear why, for Catholics, “Small is Beautiful.”
Luke Stocking is the Development and Peace Animator (D&P) for Central Ontario. He joined the staff of D&P in November 2006 but was first involved with the movement at the age of 16.
Most of Luke’s work with Development and Peace is done in Canada, educating and organizing Canadian Catholics. However, he has led trips for volunteer members to visit D&P partners in Zambia, the Philippines and , just this past summer, Paraguay.
He has a Master of Arts in Theology from St. Michael's at the University of Toronto, the focus of which was Catholic Social Teaching.
Luke is a proud father of two young children living in the Junction. He sees himself as blessed to be able to support his family while living his vocation, which is spreading the social justice message of the Catholic Faith.
