THEOLOGY ON TAP: Missions in Africa—Stepping into the Unknown

Event Date:
Monday, January 29, 2018 - 7:00pm
All young adults (19-39) are invited to join us for an evening of thought-provoking conversation on theological topics!
Special guest: Joseph Marquez, CFP, Member, Board of Directors, VIDES International.

We all desire to live a life of purpose, a life where our words and actions reflect what is truly meaningful to us. Jesus desires the same for our lives and invites us to trust in Him so that we can experience of fullness of life. In the Bible, Jesus called Peter to walk to Him on the water. Peter stepped out onto the water not knowing if he would sink but he trusted Jesus' command to “come” and he was able to do the impossible.

Jesus calls us each day to step into the unknown, and to focus on Him so that we do not sink in our doubts or circumstances.
In this talk, Joseph will share his experience in Africa and his journey towards a life of purpose and meaning.

Joseph Marquez is a Salesian missionary with VIDES Canada. He serves on the board of directors for VIDES International and has had the privilege to serve in 8 different countries including an orphanage in Mexico, youth centres in Argentina and Brazil, medical missions in Peru, and Peace and Justice work in Palestine. His most recent volunteer experience was a trip to Tanzania, Africa where he taught English and Math at a Salesian school.

Joseph is also an active member of the community. He volunteers as a sailing companion at the Queens Quay Disability Sailing Association and has been a mentor for at Risk Youths in Regent Park. Professionally, he works as a Financial Planner at Scotia Wealth Management.
