International Festival of Religious Song

This year marks the 20th anniversary of
the International Festival of Religious Song, an annual Christian music
festival highlighting international and local talent.  This year’s event
will be a gala extravaganza featuring international stars Fr. Mimmo Iervollino
of Italy (Saturday) and Tony Melendez of the United States (Sunday).  Past
Festival laureates will also perform, and showcase local talent.

The Festival is organized each year by Catholic Youth Studio - KSM Inc., a
non-profit media corporation for evangelization based in Toronto.

Each year, the Festival ties into a theme proposed by the Church.  This
year's theme is:  "The priesthood is the love of the heart of
Jesus," (St. Jean Marie Vianney) and relates to the Year for Priests which
the Church is currently observing.

The 20th anniversary Festival will take place on Saturday November 21st and
Sunday November 22, 2009 at the John Paul II Cultural Centre, 4300 Cawthra Rd.,
Mississauga, Ontario.

For two decades, the International Festival of Religious Song has been a
permanent cultural event in Southern Ontario.  Many people work to
organize the Festival each year.

Fr. Marian Gil o.m.i., founder of Catholic Youth Studio, calls the Festival a
platform on which both professional artists and amateurs alike have been able
to share their talents. "Over the years, the Festival has become a form of
evangelization - through song, but also through the life witness of the
performers themselves," he said, citing as particular examples: Tony
Melendez of the U.S., Sal Solo of England, Dana Scallon of Ireland, and Eleni
of Poland.

Singer Ewa Czepielewska is well acquainted with the International Festival of
Religious Song, having performed at the inaugural Festival and in later years
variously as a soloist, group member and group leader.  The Festival has
been a regular event in her life ever since.

"The Festival is a wonderful occasion to meet interesting people - whether
they be performers on stage or audience members sitting next to you,"
explains Czepielewska. "The Festival is a truly joyful oasis in the
sometimes dreary days of November. The Holy Spirit can be felt in the song,
dance and testimonies of the guest performers.  I highly recommend
it!"
