Cities are changing the face of our planet.  They are a stage on which we affect the environment, economy, and society.  The secret to a great city lies in the hands of the people who live in it.  Our greatest challenge is to engage more people in understanding the city and to take responsbility for their own actions.  This lecture explores a unique way to look at how cities work and a practiacl approach to creating the sustainable city we want.  The lecture and discussion weaves together theories from a number of fields in a lively visual presntation that will simulate your thinking and inspire personal action.

John Schaffter is the Director of Organization Effectiveness and Learning at the City of Toronto and has facilitated many of Toronto City Council's public engagement meetings and stragic planning sessions for city divisions.  The workshop has evolved out of his research on large scale change and employee and public engagement.  This workshop has been presented to hundreds of city staff, four neighbourhood associations and a number of university programs.
