  • Pack your bags and go!

At our November 17 Theology on Tap, Gillian Kantor and David Kantor discussed how they left their secure jobs in Toronto and, in a leap of faith, became full-time volunteers for World Youth Day 2008 in Australia. Almost as soon as they heard the call to help in Australia, David and Gillian were faced with fear and doubt. But they overcame those fears, did tremendously valuable volunteer work, and learned a great deal about trust and simplicity.

The Kantors first concern was their jobs. Would David have to give up his successful career as an Environmental Engineer?

  • Discerning Our Role in God's Plan

    Fr Santo Arrigo

Redemptorist Father Santo Arrigo spoke about discerning our role in God's plan at Faith Connections' Theology on Tap on October 20, 2008.

In Baptism, he tells us, we are called to live through action. Discerning the right work is an ongoing process that requires us to continuously listen with our hearts throughout our entire life. Sometimes, we may feel frustrated, but this hunger for meaning is necessary before we can feel satisfied. We can never stop trusting that there is a greater role for us.

We must welcome God into the decision making process of our work.

  • Torture Makes You Believe You Are Nobody

    Matthew Behrens and Marina Nemat

“You are a nobody.  The world has forgotten you.” This is the message that Marina Nemat heard and lived during her imprisonment in Iran as a teenager.  On September 15, 2008, roughly 20 years after her experience, Marina and her friend Matthew Behrens spoke on “Torture and Illegal Detention in Today’s World” at Faith Connections' Theology on Tap.
