• Canticle of the Creatures

The Faith Connections Hike and Prayer on October 5, 2013, focused on St. Francis of Assisi’s Canticle of the Creatures. The hike took us through two distinct landscapes: urban Toronto and natural Riverdale Park. As we walked along the edge of the park, we had a view of the trees in the park and, in the distance, the buildings of the downtown core.

  • From Gangland to Promised Land: An Evening at Theology on Tap

I have to admit that when I first heard the topic of John Pridmore’s talk for the September 30th Faith Connections’ Theology on Tap, I was both intrigued and intimidated. Intrigued because I had never heard someone give a personal witness about such a dark topic, and intimidated because I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to relate to his story. I had no need to worry; although John’s story is very different from my own, there is a current running between them both: God’s love. John explained that part of his conversion was coming to understand that he is loved by God.
  • Being Disciples of the New Evangelization

On May 27, Cardinal Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, spoke to a full audience of young adults at Theology on Tap about "The New Evangelization and the Year of Faith: The Challenges of the Contemporary Church." His Eminence explained seven facets of what it means to be a disciple of the Lord in the context of the New Evangelization: Call, Relationship, Variety, Conversion, Community, Vision, and Mission.

  • A Farewell and a Return

My deepest gratitude to everyone for these wonderful months at Faith Connections. It was a great opportunity to interact with young adults and work in a ministry that is dear to my heart. I hope to remain in touch as I will remain a Faith Connections volunteer. I look forward to seeing you in the near future.

    Héctor Acero Ferrer

It has been a blessed year indeed! My son, Liam, is quickly approaching his first birthday and it has been a privilege to spend his first year at home with him.

Now, as a strong extrovert who loves Faith Connections, I’m excited to be back! I am looking forward to connecting with all of you. If you are a young adult looking for resources on your faith journey (volunteer opportunities, a spiritual director, fellowship groups) please do not hesitate to contact me. If you run a young adult ministry and have ideas for collaborating, I look forward to chatting.

    See you all soon,
    Vanessa Nicholas-Schmidt

  • Habemus Papam, habemus domum

It has been an exciting week for Faith Connections! It was with great enthusiasm that we followed the conclave and the election of Pope Francis. We join with the Holy Father in welcoming a renewed focus on the poor, peace and creation as suggested by his name and his recent public appearances. We thought you might be interested in seeing a couple of interviews that our Interim Program Director, Héctor Acero Ferrer (as a Masters student at Regis College) had with CTV News during the conclave and as a part of a panel after the election.

  • Greetings from Héctor

My name is Héctor Acero Ferrer and I am delighted to be joining the Faith Connections team as Interim Program Director. My sincere gratitude goes to The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Toronto for this opportunity to work in ministry with youth and young adults across the GTA.

  • A Farewell from Kelly

    Dear Faith Connections Community,

Though I was greatly looking forward to serving all of you as Program Director of Faith Connections until March 2013, I could not pass up an opportunity that has come up for me. I will be headed to the West Coast to build a youth and young adult office for the Diocese of Victoria! I’m very excited about this opportunity.

  • Prayer Formation and Leadership Opportunity

Burning Bush: Prayer Companion Teams – East and West

Let’s Hike & Pray Together! Jesus often hiked up mountainsides to be in prayer with the Father. Prayer hikes provide opportunities to practice spiritual disciplines such as prayer and meditation and to foster an awareness of, an appreciation for, and stewardship of God’s creation. This means that in order to better profit from Hike & Prayer activities we need to learn to become more of aware of God's presence and His gifts to us.

Faith Connections would like to provide the opportunity for Young Adults to plan and present Hike & Prayer events, and to learn to do so by creating an intentional prayer community that will foster faith formation. The mission of the team is to help other Young Adults to benefit from the Hike & Prayer events by preparing and guiding the walks. Each team of 4-8 people will meet twice a month to learn about their faith, different prayer styles, and to plan Hike & Prayer events that will help others have heartfelt experiences of God's love for them as they hike.

  • Volunteer Opportunities!

Would you like to volunteer with Faith Connections for 2012-2013? We would love to have you! Volunteers can help on one of our teams —

    • Photographers — do you enjoy taking pictures? We could really use your help! Experience is an asset, but you don't need to be a pro.
    • Writers — if you have creative writing skills, we'd love it if you could help with event reports, articles, or prayers!
    • Theology on Tap — do you like meeting friends for deep discussions in a casual atmosphere? Join our team! We could use help with greeting/hospitality, set-up/clean-up, and audio-visual equipment.
    • Hike & Prayer — do you want to get outdoors and active? Help us plan our hikes!
  • A New Arrival!

Congratulations, Vanessa and Michael! The new proud parents welcomed baby Liam last week!

William Joseph Nicholas-Schmidt was born on Tuesday April 24, 2012 at 11:38am, weighing 8lbs 15ozs.

Vanessa will be away on Maternity leave until March 2013.

Filling in for Vanessa, during her absence, is a familiar face… Kelly Bourke! (Kelly took care of Faith Connections while Vanessa was on study leave in 2010/2011)
