Farewell John-Paul! Welcome back, Vanessa!

As Vanessa returns from maternity leave, please join us in bidding a fond farewell to our Interim Program Director, John-Paul. Below they both share their thoughts on the past year, and the journey ahead...

John-Paul writes:

What a wonderful year! As most of you know my term at the Faith Connections office as Interim Program Director is over. I will miss all of you. Your conversations at our events have been nothing short of inspirational. Many have asked me if I will go on to another ministry; the answer is no. I feel I should focusing on my Masters of Divinity and doing some clinical pastoral education. I’m actually very excited about the chance to do this. It seems that since graduating from my undergrad I have had to juggle many hats at one time.

As most of you know, Faith Connections as a ministry sprang from the very charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto. They have left an indelible mark on my heart and I know that they have that effect on all whom they minister to. I will miss them so much and encourage you to form bonds with the Sisters however you can. Their experience of life and the Church is something they share, and I know that my life has deepened as a result of how they have shared it with me. By pulling up my sleeves and working with them I have seen the lives of those I work with impacted by the person of Christ. It is an experience of grace.

I know that as I leave, I give this role back to the capable hands of Vanessa Nicholas-Schmidt. She has a gift for this ministry and I can’t wait to see this year flourish under her guidance.

Thank you so much for everything you have given me. I ask your prayers in my life and ministry, I will keep you in mine.

God Bless you all in all you do, may the light of the trinity enlighten your path so your steps be sure. May our Mother’s mantel enfold you and her prayers strengthen you.

I leave you with the some of the last recorded words of my most beloved Father (Saint) Francis: “Let us begin to do good, for as of yet, we have done nothing.”

In the Fellowship of Christ,
John-Paul Markides

It has been a blessed year at home with my boys. Liam is now 3.5 years and Nate is 11 months. How time flies! Thank you to John-Paul for sharing his gift of creativity and energy with Faith Connections!

I am excited to be back and I look forward to connecting with all of you. If you have any questions for me, if you would like to share feedback, if you would like to volunteer or partner on an event, or if you are looking for a spiritual resource (i.e. a spiritual director, a volunteer opportunity, a young adult community, etc) please contact me and I will do my best to help.

Wishing you many blessings,
Vanessa Nicholas-Schmidt
