Happy New Year!

Faith Connections is looking forward to working with you in 2011!

Blessings of 2010

  • Faith Connections became a part of Fontbonne Ministries, established in 2000 by the Sisters to respond to social and spiritual needs by nurturing community. Sr. Mechtilde O’Mara was welcomed as the new Ministry Director, and Leanne Kloppenborg is our Administrator.
  • When Vanessa Nicholas-Schmidt went on leave to further her education, we welcomed Kelly Bourke as Interim Program Director.
  • We hosted a variety of large and small events and retreats, including 9 Theology on Tap talks and 3 Hike & Prayer adventures.
  • We worked to connect young adults and strengthen networking ties by collaborating with partners such as Regis College, L’Arche Daybreak, Toronto Singles Association, The Newman Centre, and the Redemptorist Youth & Vocation Ministry.
  • We celebrated 50 wonderful Faith Connections volunteers in May.

Last Spring, Sr. Thérèse Meunier stepped down as Director of Faith
Connections and took on a new role as Congregational Leader of the
Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto. Some young adults shared their thoughts and memories:

“I will always remember her continuous support and faithful care about my ministry endeavours.”

“She was clear, focussed, fun, courageous and willing to try whatever contributes to the mission.”

“She anchored the community through her kindness, generosity, tenacity and patience.”

“She
is able to bring out the best in everyone around her. She gave me
opportunies to shine and share my gifts and I really appreciate that.”

“She brought a keen commitment to young adults, listening attentively to their needs and responding.”

Looking ahead to 2011

Eat Pray Share — We ventured into the realm of the “foodies,” offering a six-session support and reflection club on the spiritual side of food. We are excited to start planning for future Eat Pray Share groups — stay tuned to the web site for updates!

Busy Persons Retreat — In collaboration with Regis College and TAVDA, we will be hosting a Lenten retreat. We will have spiritual companions available in many areas of the diocese so that young adults can participate in their own area.

Village Earth Outreach — We are partnering with the Federation of Sisters of St. Joseph of Canada on a young adult retreat exploring the growing scientific awareness of the earth, our current ecological crises, and how it connects with our faith journey. It will be held from May 27-29, 2011 at Villa St. Joseph.

And we’re planning all of our regular events,  such as Theology on Tap,
Hike & Prayer, and more!

If you know any young adults who are looking for something in their
spiritual journey or need support, please connect them with us!
